- 1 8-ounce box elbow macaroni
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Ground black pepper to taste
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook macaroni until al dente, then drain.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, salt, and pepper, stirring continuously. Cook for about 5 minutes.
Slowly pour in the milk while stirring. Cook until smooth and bubbling.
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni and stir until well coated.
Serve hot and enjoy!
- For a baked version, transfer to a dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.
