Ingredients
  

  • 1 8-ounce box elbow macaroni
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook macaroni until al dente, then drain.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, salt, and pepper, stirring continuously. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Slowly pour in the milk while stirring. Cook until smooth and bubbling.
  • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
  • Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni and stir until well coated.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a baked version, transfer to a dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.
  • To reheat, add a splash of milk and warm gently on the stovetop.
